The Gateway

Gateway to the Grand Strand is a bold vision to create a landmark unlike anything in the Carolinas. At its heart will stand the tallest flagpole in North America, rising 450 feet above the Grand Strand and flying the largest American flag—a powerful new gateway welcoming millions of residents and visitors to Myrtle Beach for generations to come.

A LANDMARK BUILT TO BE SEEN

450 Feet. One American Flag. An Unforgettable Welcome.

At approximately 450 feet tall, the centerpiece of Gateway to the Grand Strand will rise dramatically above the surrounding landscape, creating a landmark visible from miles away.

At its summit will fly an American flag of extraordinary scale—designed to become the largest American flag flown from the tallest flagpole in North America.

But the project is about more than height. The base of the flagpole will become a thoughtfully designed civic landmark surrounded by landscaping, lighting and a collection of flags recognizing South Carolina and the branches of the United States Armed Forces.

BUILT FOR AMERICA’S 250TH

A Freedom 250 Project

In 2026, the United States celebrates 250 years of independence.

Gateway to the Grand Strand is being developed as a Freedom 250 Project—an opportunity for our community to mark this extraordinary moment in American history by creating something permanent.

Anniversaries pass. Landmarks remain.

Our goal is not simply to commemorate America’s 250th birthday. It is to use this historic moment to bring people, businesses and organizations together to create something that will still be standing when future generations celebrate America’s 300th birthday and beyond.

HELP US BUILD IT

This Landmark Will Be Built by a Community.

A project of this scale takes more than an idea. It takes people willing to help turn that idea into something real.

Gateway to the Grand Strand will be supported through private donations, major gifts, corporate partnerships, community support and philanthropic contributions.

That means there is a place in this project for everyone.

Some people may contribute $25. Others may contribute $250 in honor of America’s 250th anniversary. Families may make gifts in memory of someone they love. Businesses may become project partners. And individuals, foundations and corporations may choose to make transformational gifts that help make construction possible.

Every contribution becomes part of the story of how this landmark was built.

THE 250 CAMPAIGN

250 Years. Your Place in What Comes Next.

To celebrate America’s 250th anniversary, supporters will have the opportunity to participate in the Gateway 250 Campaign.

Whether your contribution is $25, $250, $2,500 or significantly more, your support helps move the project from vision to reality.

This gives individuals and families a simple way to say:

I helped build it.

MAJOR DONORS

Leave Your Mark on a Landmark.

There are projects we support because they matter today and there are projects we support because they may still matter generations from now.

Gateway to the Grand Strand offers individuals, families, foundations and businesses the opportunity to become part of the creation of a permanent American landmark.

Major gifts will help fund the flagpole, flag, engineering, site development, landscaping, lighting and other major components necessary to bring the project to life.

We are developing meaningful recognition opportunities for those who choose to make significant contributions to the project, including founding-level donors, corporate partners and transformational gifts.

If you are interested in discussing a major contribution, we would welcome the opportunity to speak with you personally.

CORPORATE PARTNERS

Put Your Company Behind Something Built to Last.

Gateway to the Grand Strand presents a rare opportunity for businesses to help create a landmark that will become part of one of America’s most visited destinations.

Corporate partners will help make the project possible while demonstrating a tangible commitment to the Grand Strand, the people who live here and the millions of visitors who travel here each year.

Partnership opportunities can include significant project contributions, in-kind support, construction and materials partnerships, community campaigns and other customized ways to participate.

This is not simply an opportunity to place a logo on an event.

It is an opportunity to say:

We helped build this.

HONOR SOMEONE

Make Their Name Part of the Story.

Some gifts mean more when they are made for someone else.

Gateway to the Grand Strand will allow donors to make contributions in honor of or in memory of family members, veterans, friends and others whose lives deserve to be remembered.

A contribution can celebrate someone who served our country, someone who helped build our community, or simply someone whose story deserves a permanent connection to something meaningful.

Additional permanent recognition opportunities will be announced as the project and site plan are finalized.

Gateway to the Grand Strand Foundation

Gateway to the Grand Strand is a nonprofit, community-led initiative created to establish a permanent landmark at the entrance to the Myrtle Beach area in celebration of America’s 250th anniversary.

The centerpiece of the project will be an approximately 450-foot flagpole designed to become the tallest in North America, flying the largest American flag. The surrounding property will be transformed into a beautifully landscaped civic gateway recognizing South Carolina and the men and women of the United States Armed Forces.

As a nonprofit initiative, Gateway to the Grand Strand will be made possible through the generosity of individuals, families, businesses, foundations and community partners who share the vision of creating something that will endure for generations.
